Nanowrimo, half way there

nanowrimo 2019.jpg

I’m doing Nanowrimo this year, for the first time. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, but something always seemed to happen in November. Either at my day job, or with the projects I was already working on, and before I knew it…it was December already.

Plus:

I’m a panster, an extreme panster actually. All I start with, all I need is an image. A voice. An idea. Maybe. So I can’t even have an outline or a synopsis before I start, to guide me towards the finish line. I’d just be racing, blindfolded, and hoping I wouldn’t fall into a ravine or drown in the sea on my way there.

I also edit as I write. So, for me to write a certain number of words every day, without stopping to see if they’re exactly what I want, is tough. Very tough.

Nanowrimo is not for everyone, I am realizing this more and more as November days pass. We all write in different ways, and a self-imposed word count might not work for all. Just like the general, ‘write every day’ doesn’t work for everyone. Or, ‘your first draft always sucks’ is not necessarily always true.

I don’t know if it will work for me either, but I like to test my limits and see what I am truly capable of. I might end up with useless 50k words on November 30, or with 25k good ones. We shall see…in 15 days.

Until next time!
