FAQ: What inspired me to write Someday in Paris?
These are questions I hear often and I’m sure this is true for all writers. ‘How did you come up with the idea?’, ‘Where do you get your inspiration?’
Someday in Paris is a story that’s been with me for years. I don’t know how it is for other authors, but I rarely just sit down after I had an idea and start typing on my computer. It’s a process. And it can take a long time.
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when my mind first caught a glimpse of what would one day become my debut novel. Maybe I was daydreaming (as usual), or I was working on another project, or perhaps I was just taking a walk. Most likely, there were several of those moments, and at the right time, Zara and Leon’s story emerged almost like a movie. And all I could do was watch, take mental notes, and hope I wouldn’t forget anything important.
What is certain though is that parts of Zara and Leon’s story are inspired by true events. Some from my own life and some from the lives of people I have loved and lost, and people who are no longer with us...
As for the characters themselves, they are also based on real people, which makes this novel even more personal to me. But more about that in a future post.
Someday in Paris is the book of my heart. It’s the kind of story I’ve always wanted to read. Always! And I guess I wanted it so badly, I decided to stop waiting and write it instead:) And I hope you will all be happy that I did.
